Set yourself goals

Even though you will probably have a range of different jobs, and possibly careers, in your lifetime, it's still worth thinking about personal goals for study and career while you're at school.

Start by thinking about your long-term goals, then develop short-term goals that will help you achieve them.

Long-term goals

Some long-term goals are the big plans you have for your future. Others relate to skills you want to develop, or experiences you want to have in your life. The important thing is to take the time to think about what you want and what you need to do to get there.

Short-term goals

Short-term goals are like a to-do list for achieving a long-term goal. Success makes a big difference to your motivation, so set realistic goals you know you can achieve. You probably won't be able to achieve every goal straight away, but every tick on your to-do list is a step toward where you want to get to in life.

High school is just the first step, not the be-all-and-end-all of your life plan.
