The Post Office, Melbourne

When communication relied entirely on letters and telegrams, post offices were amongst the most important buildings in a city.  Their architecture reflected this, and Melbourne's post office resembles a European palace.  Construction of this magnificent building began in 1859 with further elements being added over time.
