International Exhibition, Hyde Park, London, 1862

Australia's display at this exhibition in London concentrates on its production of gold. The tall pyramid represents the total volume of gold extracted to that date in Victoria. Note the men at the wooden puddling tub, demonstrating the technique of panning for gold.
