Wildfire moves through the town of Omeo burning everything in its path

This photograph vividly communicates the ferocity of the Australia Day fires of 2003, which raged through north east Victoria and into Canberra. Omeo is under a pall of dense smoke, the hot wind whips through the trees, and there is a menacing orange glow of the approaching fire in the background. The scale of this event is evident as a resident runs from his property and flames begin to move over the top of the town.
