I have got it
This painting shows a lucky digger who has found gold using the ‘puddling’ and panning methods. With gold at £3 an ounce (28 grams), and a labourer’s weekly wage around £2 a week, this miner is holding the equivalent of weeks, or perhaps months, of wages.
