Hume and Hovell crossing the Murray in 1825

This image gives a good idea of the time consuming nature of travel across areas unknown to Europeans. The three month expedition found much open land suitable for farming and grazing between Sydney and Port Phillip. Published as a supplement to the Illustrated Australian News.
